Felipe Massa got the second pre-season test off to the ideal start for Ferrari as he topped the timesheets at Jerez on Thursday, as rival McLaren’s 2011 car made its official track bow.
The Brazilian, driving the car now known in more long-winded form as the Ferrari 150th Italia, set a best time of 1m20.709s during the morning and the mark comfortably remained unbeaten for the remainder of the day.

Michael Schumacher and Mercedes turned their so-far disappointing winter form around by topping the times on day two of this week's Jerez test today.
Mercedes had looked the most troubled of the top teams during the opening pre-season tests, but a series of blistering laps by Schumacher today, including his session-topping 1m20.352s, put the squad up front.
Schumacher's old team Ferrari was his closest rival, with Felipe Massa lapping 0.061s down on the seven-time champion as he took second.

Nick Heidfeld made a spectacular pitch for the Renault seat made available by Robert Kubica's accident as he led the way in his debut test with the squad.
The experienced German - who was team-mate to Kubica at BMW for two and a half years - was invited to audition for Renault today after Kubica was sidelined, perhaps for the whole 2011 season, by the injuries he sustained in his terrible rally crash last weekend.
And Heidfeld will have left Renault in little doubt about his capabilities as despite losing some time to teething troubles with the R31 in the morning, he set a blistering 1m20.361s lap late on to top the session.

Williams turned its pre-season form around with a blistering performance by Rubens Barrichello on the final day of running at Jerez today.
After repeated teething troubles had kept Barrichello and team-mate Pastor Maldonado from achieving the mileage or pace they wanted during the preceding three days, Williams got 103 laps under its belt with the veteran Brazilian today - despite still losing a bit of time to a hydraulic leak that stranded the car on the circuit
