;DFelipe Massa and Ferrari claimed the honour of topping the first Formula 1 test session on the new-for-2011 Pirelli tyres as teams got their first chance to assess next season’s rubber on Friday at Yas Marina.
The two-day test at the end of a long week and a half for teams in Abu Dhabi provides an opportunity for all 12 squads, and most of the grid’s drivers, to gain an initial insight into the characteristics of the new Pirellis and how they are likely to affect car set-up for next season.
Pirelli has made available eight sets of tyres across the two days, with its initial versions of soft and medium compounds on offer.
