Rome is considering staging a street race on the outskirts of the city, it was revealed today. The former formula two driver and the world superbike promoter Maurizio Flammini first had the idea in 1984 and has now proposed the scheme again after the Spanish city of Valencia and Singapore held street races last season. "It's an idea Flammini has proposed and mayor Gianni Alemanno has said it is possible," a city council spokesman said. The Monaco Grand Prix, which takes place through the streets of the Mediterranean principality, is formula one's showcase race although Singapore's debut as a night race won rave reviews last year. Flammini would like to see a grand prix in Rome from 2011 but any plan would have to be approved by formula one's commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone, who is not short of would-be hosts. msnformula1racing.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talkf1&action=post

That's if your saying San Marino is in Italy, which techincally it is, but it is a seperate country in the Apennine Mountains. It is a landlocked enclave, completely surrounded by Italy. One of the European microstates, San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe. And probably my least favourite cuircut I've been too. It's like saying Monaco is in France............ heaven forbid !

If I am not mistaken, Imola is in Italy NOT San Marino so they just named it the San Marino grand prix to give Italy an excuse for a 2nd race!!!

I've always thought that Imola was actually in Italy, aye, but very close by tho. As the very small enclaved Republic of San Marino was too small to have a GP there. Imola is very very close to San Marino. 100km away 'ish.
So it was just an excuse for having another GP in Italy really...... Like saying Monaco is in France, which we all know it is not.....
Ooooo politics!!!

What they need to do is to bring back F1 to the other side of the pond...U.S and Canada...I think we already have enough races in Europe!!
