You have to admit, each corner at Silverstone has a very unique name, as opposed to turn 1, 2, 3, etc.
How did each corner get such a unique name? OK, club corner is obvious with the BRDC. I heard another corner is named after a school.
What about all the others? Maybe some Brit can chime in on this. -mark

I know the Hanger Straight is were one of the hangers used to be as there were 2 during WW2. Becketts is from the ruins of the Chapel of Thomas à Beckett and Stowe is named after Stowe school, can't remember the others off the top of my head.

Club corner is actually named after the RAC Club on Pall Mall. Copse – nearby 7 Copses Wood. Beckets - After Thomas A Becket (Archbishop of Canterbury that got murdered). But also because a chapel of his is nearby (although now its in ruins under the undergrowth somewhere) Silverstone - Early English name for wooded area Maggots – named after Maggots Moor Chapel Curve – named after the nearby ruins of the Chapel of Thomas à Beckett Hangar Straight - harks back to RAF Silverstone days. Its named after two aircraft hangars that originally stood next to the straight Stowe Corner - named after Stowe School on the south circuit Abbey Curve - because its near the site of the ancient Luffield Abbey Priory – After Luffield again. Farm – named after Luffield Abbey Farm Bridge – because its right by the access bridge to the infield. Brooklands - After Brooklands Circuit. Luffield – After Luffield Abbey Woodcote - the RAC club in Surrey Only one I can't answer is why is the Vale called 'the Vale'. But then it could be because that straight goes through a vale of sorts. What gets me is how no-one seems to spare a thought for the little white stone that everyone walks over at Luffield. Its a memorial to some brave pilots in WW2 who lost their lives at Silverstone whilst trying to make an emergency landing.

I still don't understand what 7 Copses wood is. Maggots Moor sounds very dreadful...kinda strange name.
Luffield shows some respect to RAF pilots... maybe a few yanks too.
Thanks for the history lesson, Fraggle.

Cool, I never knew that either. Thanks Fraggle. I've never seen that white stone at all during my whole times at Silverstone!
