2010 Entry List Announced

After days of intense speculation about which teams would comprise the make up for the 2010 championship, the FIA announced that of the current teams only Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso, Williams and Force India have been granted entries.

It means that Brawn, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber and Toyota have all been sidelined for now - pointing towards further frantic efforts to try and find a solution to the row over cost cuts.

In a statement issued by the FIA, it said: "These five teams have submitted conditional entries.The FIA has invited them to lift those conditions following further discussions to be concluded not later than close of business on Friday 19 June."

The inclusion of Ferrari and the two Red Bull teams is also a bone of contention, with the outfits likely to claim that they could only be entered if the conditions attached to their applications to race were met.

The FIA, however, believes the teams committed several years ago when they signed deals with the governing body and Formula One Management tying themselves to the sport.

The list also confirmed that three new teams had been granted an entry - Campos Grand Prix, Manor Grand Prix and Team US F1.

Should any of the five current teams not make the cut, then the FIA is evaluating further entries being added.

AUTOSPORT understands there are three or four other teams who are close to being granted entries, and dialogue is still ongoing.

Campos Grand Prix is being run by former grand prix driver Adrian Campos, with Team US F1 headed by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor.

AUTOSPORT understands the new Manor Grand Prix team is headed by F3 team boss John Booth and former grand prix team owner Nick Wirth.

Champions Ferrari and the two Red Bull teams were also deemed to be unconditional entries by the FIA in a controversial step after days of feverish speculation about who would be on the list.

The three are all members of FOTA, who submitted a joint entry conditional on the 2010 rules being rewritten and a new commercial agreement signed by Friday.

Ferrari, who had warned the FIA not to include them as an automatic entry, reiterated their position in forceful terms after the announcement:

"For the avoidance of any doubt, Ferrari reaffirms that it shall not take part in the 2010 Formula One world championship under the regulations adopted by the FIA in violation of Ferrari's rights under a written agreement with the FIA," the Italian team said.

Red Bull said in a separate statement that its entry was submitted as a conditional one and both its teams were committed to FOTA.

I think F1 is not going to be the same anymore. MM vs Bernie vs FOTA..everybody against everybody..it is a mess, chaos. Renault has sent letter to their distributors saying they may not race next year, Ferrari is threatening with leaving the sport and this is just the tip of the iceberg..what a freaking mess!!!!!!!!!!!

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has made a dramatic intervention in the dispute about Formula 1’s future – calling for a major overhaul of the way the sport is run and raising the spectre of a manufacturer-led breakaway if it does not happen.

On the day that the FIA published the 2010 entry list – provoking a hostile reaction from Ferrari and a renewed statement of intent from the Formula One Teams’ Association – the ACEA’s board met in Brussels to discuss the situation.

The organisation, whose members include all the carmakers involved in F1, said the way the sport is currently administered musty not go on.

It issued a statement saying: “Today, the members of the Board of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association discussed the current situation prevailing in Formula 1, and have concluded that the current governance system cannot continue.

“ACEA has come to the conclusion that the FIA needs a modernised and transparent governance system and processes, including the revision of its constitution, to ensure the voice of its members, worldwide motorsport competitors and motorists are properly reflected.”

The manufacturers’ body also indicated that it is unhappy with the current distribution of F1’s commercial revenues and wants the teams to receive a greater share.

“The ACEA members support the activities and objectives of the Formula One Teams’ Association to establish stable governance, clear and transparent rules which are common to all competitors to achieve cost reductions including a proper attribution of revenues to the F1 teams, in order to deliver a sustainable attractive sport for the worldwide public,” it said.

The ACEA ended its statement with a thinly veiled warning that it would explore the possibility of forming its own breakaway series if its demands for regulatory reform were not heeded.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali is adamant that the FIA cannot include his squad in the list of confirmed entrants for next year’s world championship unless it accepts FOTA’s conditions.

With just two days remaining before the governing body reveals the composition of the 2010 grid, and still no resolution to the dispute over next year’s rules, the Formula One Teams’ Association met to discuss the situation in London on Wednesday.

The eight FOTA members have lodged conditional entries for next year – which they say will only be valid if the FIA agrees to drop plans for a budget cap and gives new guarantees over the sport’s rule-making process – while a host of prospective new teams have entered unconditionally.

The FIA and Bernie Ecclestone claim Ferrari is contractually obliged to compete in F1 until 2012, but the Maranello team argues that the governing body has in effect torn up the contract by forcing through rule changes unilaterally.

Should no agreement be reached on the wider dispute with FOTA as a whole by Friday, some expect the FIA to include Ferrari on the 2010 list anyway as an ‘automatic entry’, citing its alleged contractual obligations.

Domenicali, however, says the governing body has no right to do so.

“Ferrari’s position has not changed,” he said in an official statement.

Bernie Ecclestone has warned Formula 1 teams that they risk being sued for huge sums if they set up their own rival championship and try to lure television companies or sponsors currently contracted to him.

Amid signs that the FIA and the eight members of the Formula One Teams’ Association may finally be engaging in a constructive dialogue as Friday’s scheduled announcement of the successful 2010 entrants looms large, Ecclestone has fired a new warning shot to rebel teams.

F1’s commercial impresario told the Daily Express that he would have no hesitation in suing any breakaway organisation that tried to poach existing circuits or sponsors.

“If they do try to set up their own series – and I don’t think they will be able to – there are big problems ahead for them,” he said.

“Apart from my contracts with teams, if somebody went to any of our contracted people, companies, television contractors, we would view it very seriously.

Ok, we obviously all know Scuderia Marlboro Ferrari, Scuderia Toro Rosso STR, Red Bull Racing, At&T Williams Toyota, Force India Mercedes F1 Team, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, BMW Sauber F1 Team, Renault F1 Team, Panasonic Toyota Racing and Brawn GP Formula One Team, but interesting to see 3 new teams, Campos Cosworth Grand Prix, Manor Cosworth Grand Prix and Team US Cosworth F1 Team. Good luck to them if they officially make it to the 2010 grid.

If they all race next season, would that'll be 13 teams ;D
