OMG!!!

Silverstone for sale, Ecclestone buyer - report Sunday 17 May at 15:58 : May 17 (GMM) In a confidential letter, the chairman of the British Racing Drivers' Club has reportedly proposed to sell the 2009 grand prix venue Silverstone.
The leaked proposal, made in writing by Robert Brooks, would have to be backed by other members of the track-owning club, but the move could theoretically be a shot in the arm to the hopes of the Northamptonshire track of retaining its formula one round
Amid 2010 host Donington's reported problems, The Guardian newspaper claims that front of the queue to buy Silverstone could be the circuit's seasoned critic Bernie Ecclestone
Should the F1 chief executive buy Silverstone, he could run the British grand prix at the venue "as he pleases". The newspaper also claims that the BRDC, which has owned Silverstone since 1971, irritates the 78-year-old billionaire "intensely"

As a fan living in the U.S.- I, for now, have no potential f1 race to readily have a chance to go to! I have to try and find a tour package to be able to attend (any) f1 race. after going to Brazil in 2004, I realized how (prohibitively) expensive attending a race could be- that cost me a total of US$3,350.00 :-( when I think of all the new venues and their lack of spectator areas {Valencia?- could I stand next to a wall somewhere to watch it if I didn't want to sit on the start/finish straight?}, I start to get very limited as to where I could afford to attend. Now "the little dictator" is considering buying Silverstone- what kind of changes would he make to a circuit that doesn't have many (if any) dangers? Also, he'd probably have Herman Tilke design the changes! I have not een impressed with Mr. Tilke's designs- so many turns, not wide enough to allow passing except in a few select spots. Silverstone does deserve to remain on the calendar- but leave the track alone!! Finally- as an aside- why doesn't Bernie use his money to pay off the debts at Donnington (and the changes) to guarantee F1 in England? Silverstone (if there's such a program in England) should be designated a historical landmark {given it was a WWll RAF airbase to boot} and let the government fund a majority of monies needed to maintain the facility with help through public donations. This way- england could alternate, year-by-year, Silverstone and Donnington the way Japan will alternate Suzuka and Fuji. This would generate more interest and excitement for the fans and alternating challenges for the drivers and teams from year to year. I myself might be able to "live" with the idea of the cost to attend a race at least once- especially since I will always cry long and loud that the cost to the fans should be lowered. $110 million to $40 million- way too drastic given that F1 is used to test technologies that eventually make their way into our cars. But, I feel that F1 is like american baseball- ticket prices too high in order to compensate (someone) for the too massive costs to run the 3 days of a formula 1 weekend.
but then, I'm one of the poor fans and don't really care about the teams crying over budget cuts! I can only look at it from my pocketbook's view!

Wonder if Bernie had this in mind from the start, loose the GP, give it to another venue then pick up Silverstone at a bargin price, the whole deal stinks

Thats a very good idea, but remember who picks the venue, its Bernie so if he did not own it he would sulk and do away with the British GP
