I think caution may need to taken by our belovered teams during their meetings with the FIA this week. So far I have read of 4 new teams wanting to join F1 in 2010. Dave Richards with Prodrive, Mike Gascoyne with Lifespeed F3 team, Lola and Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson with a US based team. Should Ferrari, Renault, Red Bull and Toyota want to pull out, Bernie already has possible 4 replacements. Makes me feel a little uneasy

The US based team is the one gaining the most ground with them already reckoning that Danica Patrick will be one of their two drivers.

They have a short list - Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jonathan Summerton, Danica Patrick, Graham Rahal and A.J. Allmendinger. And the car will be ready in November.

Yes but these teams will not have the same pulling power as the teams who say they might quit, F1 is all about putting pums on seats for the track owners and sponsers

from ITV F1 Ferrari insists the ultimatum it has given the FIA is not posturing and it will “really and truly” pull out of Formula 1 at the end of the season if next year’s regulations are not changed.
The Maranello outfit this week fired its most explosive salvo yet in its bid to get the optional £40 million budget cap overturned, vowing to not enter its cars in 2010 if the rules stand as they are – with Renault, Toyota and Red Bull having also all made the same threat.
Ferrari’s move has been seen as clear brinkmanship in some quarters, given the iconic Italian marque’s indelible link with the sport, with it having made a similar threat only last October over the possible introduction of standard engines.
But on the eve of the Formula One Teams' Associations crunch meeting with FIA president Max Mosley in London on Friday to discuss the cap and two-tier system it will create, Ferrari board member Piero Ferrari – who is founder Enzo’s son and retains 10% of the company’s shares – says the team's position is crystal clear.
"This is not a war of press releases," Ferrari told the Guardian newspaper.

British Formula 3 team Litespeed has revealed it will apply to become one of the 13 teams on the 2010 F1 grid and plans to run under the £40 million

it sure would be nice to see A. J. Almendinger back in open wheels- especially in F1! He was a star in ChampCar- and I just found out he won in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A the year before I went to the race (which Sebastien Bourdais won):-(

They are all willing to agree to run under the budget capping, which is what makes it feel uneasy to me! Hopefully we will find out today the outcome. I love seeing new teams join F1 but at the loss of some great manufactures and brands I don't think it would be good for the sport.

The rumors of Danica and Graham joining are unfounded. Danica's contract with Andretti/Green is up after this season so she's being mentioned to gin up interest stateside for F1 and Graham Rahal has already said he intends to stay in Indy Cars for the time being. Danica will most likely stay in ICS,too, but if she leaves it will be for a huge paycheck in Nascar. Experts agree she would be a disaster in F1. A big name for sure, but a backmarkers backmarker.

Peter Windsor is quoted as saying they are the drivers they are looking at, I doubt they have approached them yet, and may not get who they want should they get into F1. “We have a shortlist of guys that we are looking at,” said Windsor. “There are some Americans doing quite well right now in single-seater racing from Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jonathan Summerton, Danica Patrick, Graham Rahal and A.J. Allmendinger.

Lola has confirmed it will lodge an entry for the 2010 world championship after completing its evaluation of the new regulations.
The British carmaker, a former F1 chassis supplier, announced last month that it was considering returning to the sport for the first time since its disastrous stab at team ownership in 1997 and was carrying out a “full technical, operational and financial evaluation” of the then proposed £30m all-encompassing optional cost cap.
And while the limit has since been increased by £10m, and certain expenditure including driver salaries and marketing budgets placed outside, Lola has decided to press ahead with its bid to claim one of the 13 spots on next season’s grid when the application process opens next Friday.
“The original cap of £30 million, including engines formed the basis of Lola’s initial interest,” a Lola statement read.

BE has also whispered a second US team is consiering lodging an entry. Aparently it is one of the Indycar teams so is most likely to be Penske or Andretti/Green, or maybe N/H/L/R. Wouldn't it be great to have Helio Castroneves around the F1 paddock, such a great personality and would be great for F1. The American racing scene loves him too so could help build up America's F1 following further. Would be nice to have Penske back too for another stab at it.

Whilst I see your point, this would not be the answer to teams such as Ferrari, Renault and the others pulling out, Mr. Dwarf needs to consider the finacial side as well, not just which teams will put money into his pocket! but also track owners need the big teams to pull in crowds thus giving them a return for the money they have invested in the track.
No offence intended to any US team but they (in my opinion) would not pull the crowds in or have the following suporters.
The solution is for Max and Bernie to stand down and let new blood in, people who have there finger on the pulse and who know what the croud want! yes let US teams in, bring the grid up to 18 or 20, better racing for us.

Blacktulip, I think if we want to have a strong F1 support here in the US we will first have to have a team and then if we combine that with a permanent USGP will make the sport more noticeable over here. ..besides, the first F1 race in Indy..years back brough a crowd of 200,000 souls ..that is massive for a country where the sport is not well known. I recall the last race brought around 100,000 still very acceptable if we compare it with some of the races around the world. Anyways, let's see what happens and no worries no offence taken in the other side of the pond
