The FIA has quietly adopted the controversial winner-takes-all system for the 2010 Formula One Drivers' Championship in its regulations.
Motorsport's governing body caused a major hoo-ha in March when it announced that this year's title will be awarded to the driver who wins the most races instead of the driver who scores the most points.
They were forced to backtrack and defer the implementation of the new system until 2010 following complaints from the Formula One Teams' Association. FOTA also urged the FIA to change current points system to 12-9-7-5-4-3-2-1 in an attempt to offer more reward for the top three finishers.
However, the latest F1 sporting regulations published by the FIA reveal that next year's Championship will go the driver who wins the most races.
Rule 6 state: "The Formula One World Championship Driver's Title will be awarded to the driver who has been classified first in the greatest number of races, all official results from the Championship season being taken into account.
"Points will be awarded to all drivers in accordance with Article 6.4 below and, in the event that two or more drivers win an equal number of races, the driver with the greatest number of points will be awarded the Driver's title"
I think I much prefer the proposed FOTA points system fizzy

I think a few teams will bow out of F1 if this is in place, leaving possibly 6 teams. To me it is totally demotivating.

Exactly, they wouldn't be interested so why spend the money it takes to run the team through the season knowing that potentially the season could be over half way through. It'll only be in for one season then they'll revise it. A points system at least gives you a chance and if consistant enough be in a good chance of picking up some good points and fighting to the end.

your spot on susie, seems the FIA never learn but want to stamp there force to show they run things, remember the FIA and Bernie still have bloody noses after their plan got rejected this season

I prefer the FOTA point system. The idea that the winner would (actually) have a distinctive point advantage {an actual "reward"} for winning is a great idea. However, I would like to see the point system expanded to the top ten finishers (i.e. the top ten fastest in Q2 get to go to Q3)- maybe like this- 15, 12, 10, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The winner getting an extra "bonus " point for wining and the podium's points having a separation from the other point scorers. This could give some of the other "lesser" (if there's such a thing) drivers incentive to try for that next spot up and lead to more passing- a part of F1 racing so sorely missed and needed. Bernie's (and the FIA's) winner take all system means- especially with the new parity the rules have brought on- could mean that the World Champion could win maybe 3 races, while the other race wins could be spread out enough, among other winners, to negate each other.
But- Mine is just an idea! I just want more "racing" in the races. The "no-refuel" rule starting next year will probably help! If we ahve to deal with "Bernie's Rule" for scoring, we'll just compare the season results to what the point system will have resulted in. Also- If Bernie's "winner take all" rule was around during the Jurassic Period, Tyrannosaurus Rex would probably still be around! lol
What do you all think- am I crazy or should I carry out my crazy idea of writing letters to the FIA just to see if I'd get a response?
I think I should copyright the point system idea so they don't steal it (but- If they liked it, I'd sell it to them for an all-expense trip to a race of my choice. ha-ha)!

The championship oughto be reqarding consistent good performance from both team and driver. That's why every credible motorsport on the planet has a points system, this new idea is absolutely ludicrous. Must be something to do with Kimi, now all he has to do is put in an effort for the first 8 or so races and he can spend the rest of them drinking beer and playing pong.
