Bernie Ecclestone says he will intervene to ensure that the row between Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and his FIA counterpart Max Mosley over the budget cap will not get out of hand.
After Montezemolo spoke out against the £40 million budget cap announced by the World Motor Sport Council last week, Mosley responded by suggesting that Formula 1 could "survive without" Ferrari if the Italian team chose to quit over the issue.
But when asked by the Times newspaper if he thought Mosley would "destroy" di Montezemolo, Ecclestone replied: "I won’t let it happen."
He feels the disagreement is just a matter of the two men's uncompromising approaches clashing.
"The trouble with Max is he’s not capable, like in the past, of wrapping things up nicely with a pink ribbon and things," Ecclestone told the Times.

Ecclestone ultimately believes that Ferrari will opt to support the budget cap if some adjustments are made to the present proposals.
“It would appear that everyone is in favour of the cap, including Ferrari, if we can get them to agree, which we can,” he said.
“However, there is concern over the amount that is referred to in the cap for some teams and also the two-tier system.
"So these are probably not monumental things to sort out.” Ecclestone ultimately believes that Ferrari will opt to support the budget cap if some adjustments are made to the present proposals.
