Jenson Button has slammed Renault boss Flavio Briatore for saying that Brawn's supremacy is damaging Formula 1's image.
Briatore made disparaging comments about Brawn drivers Button and Rubens Barrichello to a group of Italian journalists in China, suggesting that they were not of high enough calibre to be championship contenders and had been thrust into the limelight by their team's trick diffuser.
"The drivers in our team have been and are world champions, and yet the title is being fought between one driver who is a semi-pensioner and another who is a decent bloke but is like a roadside post," Briatore was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I don't know what that does for (F1's) credibility.

But Button, who revealed that Briatore had tried to lure him to Renault for 2009, said the Italian's comments were just a sign of 'bitterness'.
"Unless he is at the front, I am sure [he thinks] any team [being there] hurts the credibility of F1," Button retorted.
"He also needs to remember that he tried to employ me for this year...
"He is obviously a very angry man after the diffuser issues and he is obviously very disappointed that they haven’t produced a car that is as competitive as ours."
Button felt that Briatore's comments were an insult to the efforts of Brawn GP's staff.
"We have produced a very competitive car because of the workforce we have back at Brackley and you cannot take it away from them – it is very unfair to say that," he said.
"They have worked very, very hard in very difficult circumstances and it is very, very unfair for Flavio to comment as he has just because he is a little bit bitter."
But Briatore is adamant that having the likes of Brawn, Williams and Toyota fighting for victory will be a turn-off for spectators.
"In three or four grands prix the championship will be over, and I don't see the interest from television and the spectators' point of view in watching a grand prix when Button has 60 points, (Kazuki) Nakajima 50 points and another driver 80 points.
"It would be better to listen to it on the radio and watch something else."
Button drove for Briatore at Benetton/Renault in 2001 and 2002.

To me these remarks are disgusting and bring Briatore into disrepute as he is infact calling the FIA ruling.
I feel sure if this had been said by McLaren, Brawn, Toyota ect then the FIA would be jumping up and down to call him to a hearing!!!!!!

This is the weirdest thing that ever happened to me. I typed the b*tch*ng word and it was changed to doging. We don't use doging over here in the US. Also the word pregnant was not typed by me. What the heck is going on? The words I type are changed...this is really strange.
Fiz, I think this site is being over run by some kind of hacker. Send me a PM if you know what is going on.
hugs, mark
What the heck?

that is quite interesting how the site (creators, possibly) has worked around removing what they class as swearing, because if you remove the ing it leaves pregnant dog...and that is something that can be used to describe b*tch. would have thought that would be more hassle for them than just blocking certain words ...its a possibility anyway

This is quite interesting censorship.
The creator of this blog intentionally censors words to prevent free speech.
And manipulates words to make them politically correct. Hmmm... we have the first amendment in the US, which says we have the freedom of speech.
Are we going off the deep end of the freedoms expressed by liberty?

Fiz, I'm not dissing you...just the system that censors free speech.

It's proboards.
They set this system up of cleaning up the bad language - it's nothing to do with me.
And I think I could probably fix it - but what the heck - far too much hassle unblocking words I never blocked in the first place!

wow! i saw the flavio interview on skye, but no sound. didn't he call fernando a prima donna when he went to mclaren? who's the prima donna- and cry-baby? He's just crying because renault didn't have a a good diffuser ready- and the one they put on the car caught fire. maybe he's bored with f1 and should watch some telly himself. btw- for proboards- it's not "doging", it's "dogging".

yet another quote from the baby
"I don't know what that does for [F1's] credibility.
"It is impossible to close the gap between us and the diffuser teams."
Now on the back of further criticism from Briatore on Saturday, the Italian having reportedly called for the Brackley team to be blocked from receiving its share of F1's television revenues for 2009

His eyes must now be sore from all the crying he is doing :-)
The Italian delivered a fresh salvo against Brawn’s team while speaking to Italian journalists in China, suggesting its drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello were not good enough to be championship challengers and were only currently in that position thanks to their team’s two-step diffuser.
"The drivers in our team have been and are world champions, and yet the title is [now] being fought between one driver who is a semi-pensioner and another who is a decent bloke but is like a roadside post," Briatore was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Neither we can forget that there is a lot of warfare of words in order to distabilize other teams. By the way, Felipe was pretty upset today, I have seen a picture where it shows how he throws his hat against the floor...bad luck for the Brazilian. I have to make an observation, since Jean T left and Ron D left their teams, it seams like they have lost the north..hopefuly they put their butts together and get back to the top positions...after Renault of course :-)

Colourful is one way to put it, but yeah your right on the war of words as it is the only way off track to have digs or cry about things.
Ps. sorry Fizzy, i wasnt actually meaning you, was meaning the proboards creators, but didnt really think about the fact its all individual sites on here, d'oh!

Fernando Alonso says his Renault team boss Flavio Briatore's criticisms of the Brawn drivers last week was unjustified, and says he has no problem with the likes of Jenson Button fighting for the world championship.
Briatore had claimed that Formula 1 was being devalued by this year's radically different pecking order, claiming that Button and Rubens Barrichello were not worthy title contenders compared to Renault, McLaren and Ferrari's drivers.
But Alonso said he did not share Briatore's view, and said the current front-runners deserved their chance to race a competitive car.
"I really understand that I was lucky in 2005, 2006 and 2007 to have one of the best cars on the grid," said the double world champion.
