A friend has just called me to say Hamilton has been given 3rd place, as Jarno overtook behind the SC, anyone else heard?

Yes it's true!
from itv.com
Australian Grand Prix stewards have slapped a 25-second time penalty on third-placed Jarno Trulli – a move which drops the Toyota driver out of the points positions and promotes Lewis Hamilton to third.
Melbourne stewards announced the decision two hours after the end of Sunday’s dramatic race after both drivers were summoned to see the stewards.

Apparantly Trulli went off the track under the safety car, then re-joined behind Lewis who then let him past him so Trulli could take back his 3rd spot.
But as Trulli make a mistake then Lewis shouldn't have let him past so in effect, Trulli overtook Lewis under the safety car - which is not allowed.
Hence the penalty - well that is my understanding of the matter.

This should have been spotted during the race, and he should have been told to let Hamilton through, this great race is turning into a farce. There is too much after the fact going on.

I watched the re-play and you clearly see a Toyota going off track on the last lap.
Isn't there a rule regarding an incident and stewards enquiry, that penalties have to be taken within 3 laps of the penalty being given?
So on the penultimate lap there was not enough time left.

Yes it was on the final lap, but surely with all the technology in F1, this should have been sorted before the podium. Or is it at the fault of Toyota for not informing Jarno of regs. Oh the wonderful world of F1.

You mean to say they are actually gonna use rulez this year? That'll be good - when they tell us what they are of course!! And actually Susie, the rules were followed in Melbourne, to the letter in fact!

I appricate that Sushimo, m y point is......... can you imagine ..... ...say Manchester United lifted the FA Cup at the end of the match, only to be told, oh sorry you didn't really win Arsenal did instead? There would be riots. So, if your on the podium at the end of the race then the position should stay. The marshalls/FIA should ensure that the any investigations should be done before the guys get on the podium. Even if it means delaying the podium for an hour or so.
With the appeal coming up too, we could end up with all the guys on the podiumSunday having their positions taken away from them.
It just doesn't feel right to me, but hey thats F1.
