"The BBC and Sky Sports will broadcast Formula 1 in the UK between 2012 and 2018 under a new rights deal. The BBC has been the exclusive broadcaster of F1 in the UK since 2009 but its contract with Formula One Management was due to expire after the 2013 season. Sky Sports will show every race, qualifying session and practice live. BBC Sport will broadcast half the races live, as well as the qualifying and practice sessions from those races." news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9550930.stm

Very interesting as I did not know this, wonder if Sky is trying to get into F1 ownership by the back door!

No way!!
Sky has shown F1 before and charged for it, if i remember right it was £50 for the season but the coverge was good. I don't have Sky Sports anymore and don't intend to go back to them, so I am not happy either!

Many web sites are slating this move, the greedy dwarf claimed it will get more viewers, what he means is he will get even richer if that is at all possible.
Many of us will not change to sky on principle because of who runs it, but seems the one of stunted growth must feel left out and wants to have his phone tapped.

True - FOM are way too greedy!! ITV pulled out mainly cause of high costs - Now the BBC are technically doing the same!! It's good they're still there, but only showing half the races is shocking.
My gf and I still have sky sports, as we got it included in a special deal - We were going to get rid of it to save money, but we don't want to miss out on the live races (kinda pointless watching highlights!)
Apparently Martin Brundle isn't happy - some1 on another forum posted his twitter message thing: "Found out last night, no idea how it will work yet I'm out of contract, will calmly work through options Not impressed"

in the news this morning "Although the BBC will continue to show highlights of races that it does not broadcast live, fans have, understandably, reacted with vitriol, with many insisting that they would turn their backs on the sport rather than fork out for the right to watch it on a satellite channel - especially one owned by Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corporation organisation remains under a cloud following recent 'phone hacking revelations in the UK."

Many believe a broadcast rights deal is the precursor to a full buy-out of F1 by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp from owners CVC Capital. But the shock announcement on Friday morning by the BBC and Sky that they will share the rights, the former screening only half the races from next season until 2018 caught everybody on the hop
